Sao Paulo - The next edition of the program which inspired "No Limite" (Globo), "Survivor", from the North American TV network CBS, was filmed in the Amazon. For about three months, a team of 380 people was housed secretly in the Ariaú Hotel, 60 km from Manaus. Filming ended yesterday, and the program should air in the United States in February of next year.

In Brazil, the program is broadcast by the pay-channel Multishow (42-sky), but with some delay. Currently, the channel is airing the "Survivor" edition filmed in Africa last year. On American TV, the network is currently airing the edition from Thailand. The program was filmed in the Amazonian Forest, having tested the endurance of its participants previously in places such as Malaysia, Kenya, Australia and Thailand.
The CBS network does not make official statements about the show, since filming happens in secrecy so no one will know how it evolved nor who reached the finals. Our reporting revealed that the filming of the show generated 400 jobs for local workers, in addition to the 380 jobs integral to the production team. The construction of the scenery ("Tribal Council" were the players are eliminated) and the hydraulic and electric installation services would have been handled by local professionals of the region.
"Tribal Council", a reproduction of an old building in ruins built in the middle of the forest, was made by Parintins craftsmen. A hospital unit with a cardiologist and a surgeon is part of the infrastructure put together by the production team. The program subjects its participants to physical and logical reasoning challenges. The challenges took place in the Rio Negro National Park, on the river's right bank, one hour by boat from the hotel, in the city of Iranduba.
Filming in the Amazon almost happened for the third edition of the program, at the end of the last year, but in the end, the Reality show was filmed in Kenya and only now did it come to Brazil. Set in an island of Malaysia, the first "Survivor" was won for Richard Hatch, an openly gay man. The last episode of the first edition, which aired on August 23rd, 2000, was watched by about 40 million people in the US - the third largest audience in the history of North-American TV.
Since its premiere, the reality show has been considered a phenomenon of American TV. The program was copied in various countries, including Brazil, which has already made three editions of "No Limite" since its premiere, in 2000. The program's production team has faced difficulties while filming some editions. In Kenya, the team was attacked by guerrillas and local ecologists threatened to sabotage the program and reveal the name of the winner. The filming in the Australian Outback had also seen protests by ecologists.
Created by Mark Burnett, each edition has 16 competitors, who battle for the top prize of US$1 million. Currently, the American viewers are watching the fifth edition of the program, filmed in Thailand. CBS also produces "Big Brother" in the US and is scheduled to air it's fourth edition next year. Here in Brazil, the third one begins in January.

‘Survivor’ é gravado no Amazonas

SÃO PAULO – A próxima edição do programa “Survivor”, o programa da rede de TV norte-americana CBS que inspirou o “No Limite” (Globo), foi gravado na Amazônia. Em segredo, uma equipe de 380 pessoas ficou hospedada no Hotel Ariaú, a 60 km de Manaus, durante cerca de três meses. As gravações terminaram ontem, e o programa deve ir ao ar em fevereiro do ano que vem nos Estados Unidos.
No Brasil, ele é transmitido pelo canal pago Multishow (42-SKY), mas com atraso. Atualmente, o canal exibe o “Survivor” gravado na África no ano passado. Na TV americana, a emissora exibe atualmente a edição na Tailândia. O programa foi gravado na Floresta Amazônica, depois de já ter testado a resistência de seus participantes em locais como Malásia, Quênia, Austrália e Tailândia.
A CBS não fala oficialmente sobre o programa, já que suas gravações são mantidas em segredo para que ninguém saiba como ele se desenvolveu nem quem chegou à final. A reportagem apurou que a gravação do programa mobilizou, além dos 380 integrantes da equipe de produção, 400 trabalhadores da região, gerando empregos diretos. A montagem do cenário (o “tribunal” onde os integrantes são eliminados) e os serviços de instalação hidráulica e elétrica teriam sido realizados por profissionais locais da região.
O “tribunal”, uma réplica de um prédio antigo em ruínas montado no meio da floresta, foi feito por artesãos de Parintins. Uma unidade hospitalar com cardiologista e cirurgião faz parte da infra-estrutura montada pela equipe de produção. O programa submete os participantes a testes físicos e de raciocínio lógico. As provas aconteceram no Parque Nacional do Rio Negro, à margem direita do rio, a uma hora de barco do hotel, no município de Iranduba.
As filmagens na Amazônia deveriam ter acontecido para a terceira edição do programa, no final do ano passado, mas o reality show acabou sendo filmado no Quênia e só agora veio ao Brasil. Disputado em uma ilha da Malásia, o primeiro “Survivor” foi vencido por Richard Hatch, homossexual assumido. O último episódio da primeira edição, que foi ar em 23 de agosto de 2000, foi visto por cerca de 40 milhões de pessoas nos EUA – a terceira maior audiência da história da TV norte-americana.
O reality show, desde sua estréia, é considerado um fenômeno na TV americana. O programa foi copiado em vários países, inclusive no Brasil, que já fez três edições de “No Limite” desde a estréia, em 2000. A produção do programa enfrentou dificuldades para realizar algumas edições. No Quênia, a equipe foi atacada por guerrilheiros e ecologistas locais ameaçaram sabotar o programa e revelar o nome do vencedor. Já as gravações no deserto australiano foram realizadas sob protestos também de ecologistas.
Criado por Mark Burnett, cada programa tem 16 concorrentes, que disputam o prêmio máximo de US$ 1 milhão. Atualmente, o público americano assiste à quinta edição do programa, gravada na Tailândia. A CBS também produz nos Estados Unidos o “Big Brother”, que terá sua quarta versão no ano que vem. Aqui no Brasil, vai para a terceira em janeiro.
