THE GREAT FEAST IDOL MYSTERY
In the preview aired following Episode 10 of Survivor Gabon,
we are shown Bob telling Corinne that Marcus had kept the hidden Immunity Idol
he had supposedly tossed into the sea after the feast at the shore.
Well, did he?
|
As our friends at the Pie Hole might say, these were the facts.
After Randy found the hidden Immunity Idol,
he placed it on the feast table,
and gave everyone a chance to claim it.
We never got a full look at the Idol,
but it appeared to be very similar to the one found by Sugar on Exile Land.
The beads and their arrangement on the twine were similar,
but not exactly the same.
The strap for the necklace was made of sisal-type twine.
After Marcus convinced the other players to throw the Idol away,
the necklace was wrapped around the neck of a closed bottle.
As can be noted in the following images,
the Idol was placed on the side closest to the bottle's wire closure.
The idol itself was free to swing away slightly from the bottle.
As shown above, Randy had possession of the Idol bottle by the feast table,
yet at some point on their walk to the shore, Matty became its steward.
Randy took possession again as he and Marcus waded out into the sea.
It should be noted that the Idol was visible to everyone up to this point.
Randy passed the bottle to Marcus as they were still close to shore,
but when Marcus was shown throwing the bottle into the ocean,
the two of them were much further out, with the water about hip deep.
The closing shot of the feast,
after both new tribes were shown leaving the beach,
was that of a bottle bobbing in the water.
So, is it at all possible that Marcus might have been able to remove the Idol?
Marcus has
denied
having the opportunity to do so,
but Survivor sleuths are only sometimes duped by the clever ramblings of booted
contestants
and prefer to rely instead on the cleverly edited footage.
To that end, let us tak a closer look at what we were shown.
After Randy handed the bottle to Marcus,
the footage quickly cut to Marcus tossing the bottle into the ocean.
As the bottle was flying through the air,
there appeared to be a loose piece swinging from its side.
Was it the Idol?
It would appear too long of a tail for it to be only the Idol,
but perhaps the sisal rope became undone as the bottle was tossed in the air.
For those who wish to judge for themselves,
a slow motion clip of the toss of the bottle is available to view
here
.
It should also be noted that the bottle shown bobbing in the ocean in the
closing shot
differs from the bottle which was given to Marcus in two significant ways.
First, the original bottle did not have any sisal twine wrapped above its metal
closure,
whereas the one in the ocean clearly does.
Second, the Idol is not visible on the bobbing bottle.
While it is possible that it could be submerged, it should also be noted that
there are no beads
on the left side of the bottle where they were visible on the original bottle.
Did Marcus lie and did he actually have the Idol?
If so, way to get voted off, Marcus.
Did the Idol get lost at sea and force the producers to stage the bobbing shot?
Next time, check continuity!
Just some tidbits to gnaw on, should you get Turkey fatigue this week.
Happy Thanksgiving!
